The Jackal Buzzard is a colourful buzzard originating from Southern Africa. Generally found along mountain sides, these birds can take a wide range of prey such as small mammals, ground dwelling birds and carrion.
A dynamic woodland and forest hunter. Catches small birds and mammals in ambush from a rapid, short distance pursuit. This species has been successfully bred here at Cotswold Falconry many times.
A hawk-like buzzard from the Southern USA and Central and South America. In more northerly parts they will regularly hunt and breed in small family groups. This and their flying style makes them popular falconry and display birds.
An eagle sized buzzard from the hills and mountains of South America. Female and male birds of the same age have identical markings, but the size difference is huge. Our Lulu weighs almost 50% more than her male partner Saus.
Adult plumage in Red-Backed Hawks can vary and is very different to the brown juvenile markings. In 2020 our pair of Re-backed Hawks were the first to breed in the UK and have continued to breed most years since.

From the dry, open grasslands of Western North America. They enjoy eating small mammals, especially Prairie Dogs, and catch them using very powerful feet that drive into thier prey and a large mouth to swallow them whole.
Breeding in western North America before overwintering in the grasslands of southern South America, Swainson's Hawks have one of the longest migration routes. We currently have a small group of mixed ages on show to the public.
Breeding in woodland and searching for small mammals and carrion in open countryside, wild Common Buzzards are a regular sight over the centre. To see them up close, we have a breeding pair and Ivy who flies in the displays.
